Understanding Reiki
1. Reiki is a simple, gentle, hands-on energy technique that is used for stress reduction
and relaxation.
2. Reiki practitioners do not diagnose conditions nor do they prescribe or perform medical treatment, prescribe substances, or interfere with the treatment of a licensed
medical professional.
3. Reiki does not take the place of medical care. It is recommended that a licensed physician or licensed health care professional be seen for any physical or psychological for ailment.
4. Understand that Reiki can complement any medical or psychological care you may be receiving. Complete relaxation is beneficial for the body, so that it may begin to heal itself.
5. Long term imbalances in the body sometimes require multiple sessions in order to facilitate the level of relaxation needed by the body to begin the healing process.
Clinical Uses
Records of Reiki’s use are growing as Western medicine seeks ways to provide care in a holistic manner. Reiki is currently being offered not only for management of physical pain but emotional pain as well. According to a survey conducted by Health Forum, a subsidiary of the American Hospital Association, 42 percent of the responding hospitals in the United States and 70 percent of the responding hospitals in Canada offer complementary and alternative treatments including Reiki and healing touch. Reiki is used in the treatment of anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, and memory loss, as well as in palliative and oncological care.
Reiki is offered in hospitals, clinics and hospice settings. For example, the Integrative Medicine Department of Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital offers and teaches Reiki to patients and caregivers. In a 2010 study conducted by Yale University and published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, researchers Rachel Friedman, Matthew Burg, Pamela Miles, Forrester Lee and Rachel Lampert found that 20 minutes of Reiki significantly improved mood and variable heart rate following a heart attack. This was above and beyond control for other variables.

Understanding Distance Reiki
How does distance Reiki work?
The telephone, cable TV and internet all use energy frequencies we can’t see in order to function. The electricity in our homes does the same, as does a radio. All of these have to be tuned to the particular frequency they operate at in order to work. They all have ways to adjust the flow of energy built in so that we can turn them on, off or use them in a different way. And all of them were thought too unbelievable to be true when people first heard of them.
Distant Reiki works the same way. It is energy that must be “tuned” to the person it is being sent to. Once it is “tuned in” it will flow through the energy currents that exist naturally, just the same way that a phone signal or wifi signal does. Distance is no object for it, just as it is no object for the internet or phone communications. The energy that surrounds us carries all of these energies to the intended receiver. With Reiki, the practitioner is the conduit of the energy.
It can be a difficult concept to understand that our thoughts, intentions and emotions are energy. Yet most people can feel that their emotions create an energy sensation in the body. They may also understand that the nerve endings and spinal cord help to carry these energies throughout the body. If you go one step further, you can see the relationship between our thoughts and our emotions. It’s not much of a leap from there to see that our thoughts and emotions have an effect on our perceptions and the people around us. These things truly change our environment! It is all energy.
